A passage from a non-existent story

Well, as always, I had my whole plan laid out on how to progress in a logical manner with transitions that flow into new areas, but... my fingers- wouldn't- type...  Well, with the focus on intelligence and improving your mind there haven't been any good stories.  To make up for that, I guess I'll have to throw in this.

As the title suggests, there's no background to this.  There was never any planned follow-up, no nothing, really.  But I look at it and shake my head saying that there was so much potential there.  Maybe I should have tried to complete the story.  Maybe I still should.

----------
~I had heard about the couple who had died, though I had never learned the cause.  They had apparently left behind a girl, but no one knew exactly what had happened to her.  And so, on that cold day, as the rain fell heavily, as I walked slowly back toward my home, as I noticed the most beautiful girl standing in front of that place with tears in her eyes, my brain put together the pieces of a rather simple puzzle.

She isn't even wearing a jacket, I thought.  What is this, the first episode of an anime?  Some random guy meets some beautiful girl.  He does everything he can for her.  They become friends and have crazy things happen.  I've always thought that it'd be cool to have something interesting like that happen in my life.  I took off my jacket.  "Here, take this.  You look cold," I said.  I moved to hand my jacket to the girl, but she only turned and looked at me.  "Um... if you ever need anything, like food or like a place to stay, you could just come over to my house; it's right over there.  I'm sure my parents would be more than willing to help out," I added.  I glanced at the jacket that was still in my outstretched hand.  The girl slowly shook her head.  "I'm fine," she said, and turned away.  "No, really, I don't need this jacket.  But if you're worried about returning it, you can always just drop it off at my house some time..."  "I'm fine," she repeated, more definitively this time.  "Well, okay.  But if you don't take it, I'm just going to walk home holding it in my hand."  No response.  And so I walked home on that cold, rainy day holding my jacket in my hand.  I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up.  And I guess it's kind of funny, because even without my jacket on, I'm too distracted to notice the cold anymore.~

I was a few years younger back then.  Well, for that matter, everyone else was a few years younger too.  But that was the incident that I thought back to as I prepared to ask a question that was obviously a joke. "So, do you need any help?" I said.  And she stared at me with a stare that said, "Really?  You're going to ask me that question.  You know the answer is 'obviously not' as I know all of the material perfectly well, so I'm sure that you're not asking that question seriously, and I see no need to respond with anything more than this stare."  I swear, if she wanted to, she could communicate anything just by how she looked at you.  Well, anything that had to do with disapproval and irritation at least.  Heh, either that or I'm just imagining things.
----------

Whaat?  You want... imagery?  You want me to say they were standing along a long, deserted street with the sidewalks lit by the few spaced-out street lamps, in front of the gate of a multi-story apartment building walled off by a stone wall...  Yeah... no, I know, I'm surely not that good at it.  I mean that's hard enough.  I can't imagine trying to explain how tall they were or what kind of clothing they were wearing.

How did the girl's parents die?  The answer to that question could define the whole story.  You could have crazy answers: people in that world had special powers, and her parents had some kind of power and were fighting others with powers.  Maybe the main character has powers as well, or maybe not but he just gets tied up in it all.  You could have mysterious answers: they were killed because they knew some secret, and that secret plays a huge role in the story.  You could have more normal answers: it was some kind of tragic accident, and the story is more about a solitary girl and a guy trying to help her out.  I don't know.  There are so many different paths the story could go down.  But as it is now, it's not really a story; it just stops there.
