Perhaps all that matters... is how you tell the story.
We live our lives chasing our dreams, fighting for what we believe in, caring for what matters to us. What if, in the end, it never really mattered at all? If our dreams were empty, our beliefs were false, and that which we cared about had no deeper meaning?
Was there really any value in running around trying to kick a ball into a net? Was there any deeper meaning to pressing buttons on a controller? Maybe not, but I don't think it should matter.
You could say someone kicked a goal or someone pressed a bunch of buttons around while moving a control stick rapidly. Or, you could say Japan's women's soccer team pulled off a miracle, twice coming back while being a goal behind with time running out, winning the world cup on penalty kicks to upset the favored Americans. You could say someone achieved a new world record, getting a sub that had at one time seemed impossible.
Of course, not everything that happens is that impressive. But, you could tell stories for the ordinary things too. Failure just means that your next success will be that much more meaningful, and an average accomplishment can be something to be proud of when you have to work to get it.
I didn't see any reason to call my own hobbies pointless or my own struggles meaningless. That's why I always had my own story to tell.
Very interesting read.
